Episode 4: The Blood

Episode #160; 9:4

Our Summary

Jerry gains some weight so he decides to go on a diet, but his parents get him a personal trainer in the form of Izzy Mandelbaum. Kramer decides to store his blood at a bank, but after they increase their rates, he decides to store his blood in his own freezer, or to be more specific, Newman's freezer. Kramer ends up giving blood to save Jerry, and in the end, Newman also gives blood to him. George tries to combine TV and food in his lovemaking, but can only do so once he meets Vivian, who is Elaine's friend that at first doesn't think Elaine is responsible enough to watch her kid, but then, against Elaine's wishes, wants her to be there, but then George to be there in case the worst happens.

Our Commentary

Although I thought it would reach greater heights than the Top 50, alas, I was wrong. However, let's not knock this episode, as it is still hilarious. Just a warning though, that we watched this episode a while ago to say the least. Anyway, hilarious stuff with Marvin Kessler and Kramer knowing he died and how that's such a shock, even though he's 96, George's whole lovemaking fiasco, Vivian with basically anything she says in her whining extending voice, with such greats as "Very knowledgable" and "a few health problems", we look great, Kramer yelling at the blood bank about their service rates going up, 9 1/2 Weeks or Ghosbusters with the pastrami scene, the whole thing with the blood, starting with Jerry thinking it's the Jello and then the tomato juice, and then of course, two of the funniest scenes in all of Seinfeld, Jerry and Kramer screaming, and then at the end of the ep, Jerry, Kramer, and Newman screaming. Then we have Jerry's pulse going "hey buddy", Kramer calling Jerry's parents every week b/c Jerry doesn't, Morty's "PLUM!", Kramer taping Canadian Parliament on C-SPAN, Kramer and Newman watching an instructional video on how to make your own sausages, and making like 200 sausages, all in his bedroom, George's pleasuring you, while fixing the antenna to watch TV, Flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami, all of George's lies to Vivian, the salted cured meats, and JJ somehow seeing that they're watching Seinfeld on the TV. Overall, a hilarious episode that just misses the Top 25. Adam - Great episode. Of course it doesn't follow in its predecessors footsteps, but I guess in a way that's a big reason why it didn't make the Top 25, b/c of what the two before it did. Can we fault 9:4 The Blood. Should we bash 9:4 The Blood. No. We shouldn't. It's not 9:4 The Blood's fault that it was after 9:2 The Voice and 9:3 The Serenity Now. No it was not. But we should praise 9:4 The Blood for even making it to the Top 50 after those 2 brilliant episodes. For I am not sure if any other episode would carry the same fate. Pastrami.
