Episode 13: The Scofflaw

Episode #99; 6:13

Our Summary

Elaine tries to get a job with Mr. Lippman, who is trying to publish Jake Jarmel's book. Jake doesn't want anyone to have his Malaysian glasses, but Elaine finds a pair and wears it just to stick it to the man and ends up giving it to Lippman. Kramer repeatedly ruins a cop's chances of catching his "white whale", a scofflaw, who has so many tickets, that he scoffs at The Law. It turns out that this scoffer is Newman. Kramer gets an eyepatch cuz he thinks it looks cool and helps Newman clear his record by going to court. He is ordered to put his car in a parking lot, which, afford it he will, b/c it was Gary Fogel's spot that was given to George. Gary Fogel is a friend of Jerry's and George, who told people, except George, that he had cancer. George gave him a guilt trip and he gave him the parking space, parking space, parking space. George told him that he still owes him a secret, so he told him that he never really had cancer. Jerry obviously gets it out of George b/c he never wins at poker, but George tells Jerry he can't tell on him, even though he paid for his toupee. George sees how Gary is brimming with confidence b/c of the hair and decides to get a piece as well. Jerry comes along with him, and that's where Gary tells him the bad news about the parking space and George lets Jerry let him have it.

Our Commentary

This hilarious episode doesn't make the Top 50, but it's an excellent episode nevertheless. We get a ton of recurring peripheral characters, including Newman, Mr. Lippman, and Jake Jarmel. We also get a little less than a ton, maybe 1,999 pounds, of connecting stuff. We have George needing to swerve to get out of the way of the guy who sold Elaine his glasses so she could stick it to Jake, who causes the cop to lose Newman, the scofflaw, but enables Kramer to bring him to court, who is then ordered to take the very parking space that Gary was giving to George, which was the only thing stopping Jerry from confronting Gary about his fake cancer bit. One of the funniest scenes ever is found when Jerry tries to get the truth out of George, who is displaying his poker face, ending with Gary Fogel never had cancer with George removing his glasses in order to say it. Simply brilliant. Another hilarious scene is with Jerry and Gary at Monk's with George's voiceovers and Jerry opening his mouth angrily to show Gary his fillings. Beautiful forward link to George with his riding around in a wheelchair for fun, as he does in 9:1 The Butter Shave. Hilarious stuff with Jake not wanting anyone to have his glasses and Elaine sticking it to the man. Beautiful stuff with George's beginning of his toupee and all of Gary's "Jack" stuff is great. Overall, a solidly hilarious episode. Adam - Very good episode. As Jared said, not good enough to make the Top 50, but close enough to not fall behind. I enjoyed myself. Thank you.
