While Elaine's boss for the first 5 seasons of Seinfeld, Mr. Lippman heads Pendant Publishing, until a merger gone awry with the Matsushimi Corporation, which was partly Elaine's fault and partly Jujyfruit's fault. Later on, Lippman heads another publishing company, this time named Pundant Publishing, who does Jake Jarmel's book and Peterman's biography. His next career of varying success is being a muffin man.

"Why is it that every half-wit sitcom star has his own book out now? "
- Lippman 8:21 The Muffin Tops

The character Mr. Lippman was introduced in 3:5 The Library, but was played by Harris Shore for only that episode. The next time we see this character is in 3:12 The Red Dot, and he is then perfectly portrayed by Richard Fancy, who would go on to portray this character for the rest of Seinfeld, except Season Seven, sometimes more often in one season, such as Season 5, than others, such as Season 9.

Lippman has two sons 8 years apart of whom we only know the older, who's name is Adam or he has one son - check Errors below. He hates exclamation marks/points initially, but they grow on him over the years. He believes that having sex with the cleaning lady in one's office is grounds for dismissal, that he's in love with Elaine, not because he's a Jew and that she has shiksappeal, and renounces his faith to prove it. He loves to read the sports section, Jake Jarmel's frames, taking ideas out of the air, specifically air that's coming out of Elaine's mouth. His accountant is Jerry's gal's father in 3:21 The Letter, who has seats that belong to George's future boss, Steinbrenner, whom he sometimes gives to Lippman, whom he sometimes gives to Elaine. He likes southwestern motifs and his interior decorator side tells him that cigar store Indians fit perfectly in that motif. He uses a hanky, lives in an apartment, doesn't know Newman is Harvey Keitel/Jean Reno, is too kind that he's destructive when it comes to the germ protection of others. He's less gullible than Elaine when it comes to great Russian literature and their authors. He gives promotions, not based on seniority or talent, but compassion, especially for red-headed women who boo and hiss.

In the end, he must really think that Jake Jarmel is a great author.
