Episode 19: The Yada Yada

Episode #153; 8:19

Our Summary

Whatley converts to Judaism for legitimate reasons, but Jerry thinks that he did it so he could tell Jewish jokes. So Jerry tries getting Whatley in trouble with Father Curtis, and ends up making fun of dentists, to which Kramer is horrified by Jerry's blatant anti-dentistism/anti-semitism. George's gal uses the phrase "yada yada" in order to be more succinct, and George likes it until she may have "yada yada"ed sex. After she tells him all of her stories, he finds out that she steals and shoplifts. Elaine must have sex with the adoption agency guy for Beth and Arnie b/c she told him that Arnie yells and so they didn't get the baby. Finally, Kramer and Mickey go out with two women from the Gap, but can't decide who should go out with who, until Kramer meets Karen's parents, who are little people, so she and Mickey get hitched, when in fact Julie wanted him and Karen wanted Kramer. Also at the wedding, Jerry's new gal, Beth, stolen from Arnie, is found to be a neo-Nazi, even though she is played by Debra Messing, who is Jewish in real life.

Our Commentary

This hilarious episode has tons of funny stuff. I think I've watched it one too many times though, b/c it's only a Top 50 ep. Hilarious stuff with the whole Kramer/Jerry anti-dentite speech, Yada Yada sex, Robert Wagner's performance and dialogue to Jerry, Whatley getting 3000 right and Jerry getting 5000 wrong, Father Curtis = good guy, George finding Jerry everywhere, playing with the dentist instruments, and everything else. Great linkage with "always be there for you" with Beth and the usual Seinfeld obsession of cloth. Overall, a solidly hilarious episode. Adam - This episode goes straight into my Top 5. There are just too many funny scenes for me to overlook this. Every scene itself had something hilarious in it, so I don't know how in the world, Birdy Bird puts it only in his Top 50. It just doesn't make sense. Any episode with Whatley, Father Curtis, Mickey, and even Dr. Abbott, should automatically fly into your Top 5. If you threw in Peterman then it would be #1. If you also threw in Bania, it would have been off the charts, but that was not the case, so we take what we can get. The fact that Merlot was even mentioned adds to the greatness of this episode. Kramer and Mickey fighting over the table, Anti-Dentite bastard, those aren't matzohballs/buoueys, and a foreshadowing of a Raquel Welch appearance adds up to greatness. I cried during this episode, I cried. Not to mention that you also spit out your soda all over the place after the Mickey/Kramer table fight. That alone shows what this episode can do to a man, even one who has seen the episode thousands, thousands???, millions of times. Thanks for the laughs boys, thank you for the laughs, and the tears for that matter.
