Episode 2: The Soul Mate

Episode #136; 8:2

Our Summary

George must find a poem about Susan for the foundation and thinks that everyone at the foundation thinks that he killed her. He requests Jerry's help who tells him to hide a tape recorder in his briefcase to hear what they're saying about him after he leaves. He tries to do it, but ends up getting caught in a web of lies and intimidation, which was really the result of moving a chair. Meanwhile, they all do think that he killed her. Jerry is dating Pam, who he thinks he gonna dump b/c he wants to be "ga ga" over her. Kramer, meanwhile, is in love with her, and accidentally convinces Jerry to become "ga ga" over her. Kramer fights for her love with Newman's poetic help. Jerry makes a deal with Newman's in order to get him to "stop pulling the strings" for Kramer by telling Newman's that Elaine doesn't want to have kids. Pam tells both Kramer and Jerry that she also doesn't want to have kids, so Kramer, Jerry, and Newman's go for vasectomies. Finally, Elaine decides she doesn't want kids, so her new friend gets a vasectomy, but then both he and Elaine decide they want kids, so he gets it reversed.

Our Commentary

This hilarious episode continues the tradition of great Season 8 eps with a Top 50 ep. Hilarious stuff with Kramer and Newman getting Pam with Newman's refusal to accept the fact that there is such a thing as junk mail, the velvet scrungee, ga ga, Newman tripping over Kramer each time, Kramer and Jerry coming to Newman for women advice and each time, reminding him that they're talking about themselves, and not Newman, whose love for Elaine must go unrequited. Great stuff with the vasectomies, and our introduction to Kevin, from the Bizzarro world, Jerry Lewis' tape recording scheme gone awry with George, Kramer pulling George's chair, with George in it, out of Jerry's place, Kramer describing Pam, how she can bring home the bacon and fry it in the pan, George taking the day off in order to create a crude mockup of the foundation room, and Jerry suggesting to George that he should be the M&M, and that the crude mockup does nothing to add to their knowledge of the mysterious glunk. Finally, when George says in the beginning of the ep, "You want me to find a poem about Susan?" and then quickly adds in a high and fast voice, "May she rest in peace!", I simply die of laughter. Overall, a solidly hilarious episode. Adam - Anytime Newman is in an episode, you know it's gonna be good. His reciting poetry to Kramer was absolutely hilarious. Kevin is a good man who we shall be seeing in the 8:3 The Bizarro Jerry and I think that Elaine looks weird with short hair, but dad likes her like that. But this episode did have its moments and for that it goes in to the Top 50.
