Episode 4: The Chinese Woman

Episode #90; 6:4

Our Summary

Elaine's friend Noreen is now dating a long talker. Elaine hangs up on him each time, which causes him to break up with Noreen b/c he thought she was having an affair. We learn of her destructive influence on Noreen lo these many years, so Kramer takes charge of her life. This enables him to impregnate her, which he's happy about b/c his sperm count was low b/c he wore briefs. He couldn't get used to the boxers, so he wears nothing now. Meanwhile, Jerry is dating a Jewish girl from Long Island, who likes faking everyone out, making them think that she is Chinese, including Estelle, who was going to get a divorce from Frank, but was stopped from doing so b/c of her words of Confuscious. When they meet, and she sees that she's not Chinese, she puts the divorce back on. LD appears as Frank's lawyer, who happens to save Noreen's life at the end of the ep from jumping off a bridge.

Our Commentary

Although Adam may disagree this time around (see below), I think this is one of the funniest episodes throughout Seinfeld. Everything about this episode is simply hilarious. From the beautiful OCB we continue on to LD's finest moment on screen, as the man with the cape, Frank Costanza's lawyer. We get our second Noreen ep with the first ep of Frank and Estelle getting divorced. Hilarious scenes with Kramer and his "depleted?", Elaine's retort of interrupting normal schedule of into a cup in the middle of the day by Kramer, ChangSTEIN!, George sticking his head into the oven after hearing that his perents are getting divorced, Kramer's problems with boxers, and subsequent naked innocent boy roaming the countryside. Hilarious stuff with Confuscious, Kramer's in Charge, and that Kramer loves that Noreen might be pregnant. Finally, we get a Pete Mehlman/LD nuttiness, with LD coming to Noreen's rescue, completely absurd obviously, but even more nutty and absurd is that when she asks who he is, he answers, I'm Frank Costanza's lawyer, because he has no name, except for the man with the cape, but his true identity, his essence, his je ne sais quoi, that's all he is, Frank's Costanza's lawyer. Overall, this is truly a great, important, and hilarious episode. Now, let's hear what the yutz, Adam, has to say about this. Adam - Don't get me wrong, this happens to be a good episode, but I don't believe that it's worthy of being in my Top 50. There are definitely some memorable moments in this episode, but quite frankly, as a whole, it just doesn't reach star potential. I'm ashamed to say that it got off my Top 50, but on the other hand, I'm glad at the same time. Because it makes episodes such as 6:10 The Race that much better. Thank you, thank you. That's all, that's all. Ahahah. Psycho.
