Episode 10: The Race

Episode #96; 6:10

Our Summary

Elaine's boyfriend is a communist who infects George and Kramer with the ideology. George takes the "no care about looks" approach and tries to get a date in the personals for commies. His secretary tells on him, which causes Steinbrenner to send down to a Cuba version of Steinbrenner. Kramer gets hooked on the whole thing, but doesn't understand everything about it, including that it's a sensitive topic, when he brings it up to children as a store Santa Clause with Mickey, where they both get fired. Meanwhile, Elaine is blacklisted from Hop Sing, a Chinese restaurant, and ends up naming names, namely Ned Isakov, her boyfriend, who's father stayed there when he was blacklisted. Finally, the name of the ep is The Race because Jerry is dating a gal named Lois, which he obviously loves, and her boss is a childhood friend of Jerry's and George. At the time, they had raced, and Jerry got a huge headstart, but no one noticed except George. Jerry was known as the fastest kid in school. Duncan, her boss, always demanded a rematch, but Jerry refused each time b/c he liked being known as the fastest kid. No matter how hard Jerry tries, Duncan refuses to let it go, and ends up finally getting to race Jerry, who wins again b/c of a false headstart a la Kramer.

Our Commentary

Hilarious OCB starts off this beauty of an ep. Perheps one of the funniest scenes ever is found within the halls of this episode, namely George pretending to not know Jerry, Duncan, and Lois, in Monk's. It's simply hilarious. Also extremely hilarious is the actual race at the end, with Jerry's face, while running, is simply priceless, Jerry hitting Elaine upside the head, and a finish of "Maybe I will Lois, maybe I will." Throughout the ep we have the running spoof of Superman obviously, which is done perfectly. Jerry's tart cider is also quite humourous. The commie stuff is also hilarious, and Mickey's second appearance coupled with LD's Steinbrenner and a Cuban Steinbrenner-type person, brings this ep into the sacred realms of the Top 50. Overall, an excellently crafted episode. Adam - Very funny episode. Some hilarious parts. Good enough to get on to the Top 50.
