Georgy boy becomes Warren Buffett, Jerry pulls out too quickly, and Elaine loses to a bunch of cats, which is not as sad as losing to a perfume.
Our Commentary
Adam, who for the first time shows his face in these commentaries, believes this to be the worst ep of Seinfeld ever, which is mostly fueled by Kramer. I, on the other hand like the ep, but agree with the A-Man that the K-Man must die a slow and painful death. Adam feels they took a step back in this ep, whilst I feel that the ep, everyone in it, except Kramer, the multi-story plot, and multiple places is a good way to close up this first season and bring this ep closer to season 2 and away from its humble beginnings. George is great throughout the ep, especially at the end with a cigar, a sweethart, and a bearded blackie to get us into the Seinfeld universe. Superman/comic book reference and booth by window @ Monk's start the ep off in the right direction. Some stellar LD writing abounds, but what really shines is the OCB and CCB. Jerry and Elaine have dates and multiple Monk's make this ep more normal than before. But now the main feast: Kramer. Tom Cherones doesn't help this horrible rendition of the K-Man with his incessant closeups, but that's no excuse for the stupidity that Mike Richards brings to the silver screen. I agree that each character evolves over time: Jason Alexander goes from Woody Allen to George; Jerry goes from a whiney little bitch to the sarcastic ladies man we know and love; Elaine goes from an unattractive little girl to a sexual goddess. But Mike Richards can be yelled at for this horrible early character, but on the other hand, we must applaud his later incarnation of Kramer, perhaps one of the funniest characters of all time in any TV show or movie.
Overall, this season was the worst, but that's to be expected as it is the first. Everyone is finding themselves, some slower than others (while I stare at Michael Richards). However, there were many funny lines, plots, etc. and the comedy bits were dead on. Jerry's place, everyone's way of life, Monk's, and other details slowly rise to the surface. After thinking about it, the evolution occurred quickly in the first season, especially considering the fact that there were only five eps.
